Josh Cruz is an educator, designer, and fabricator, born, raised, and based in Brooklyn. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute. Being from Brooklyn, he is a prominent promoter of creating opportunities for local community members to engage in projects with local businesses and institutions to build equity in the opportunities they are presented with.

He believes that everyone has unique talents and skills that can be further developed through engaging learning experiences rooted in real-world issues that impact their lives and environments and those around them. Josh is committed to creating an inclusive environment and culture that supports and challenges the members of his community by listening to their needs, encouraging them to take opportunities to celebrate their individual cultural backgrounds and histories in their work, and promoting agency and empathy in their shared environments.

His professional interests lie in interrogating material, and fabrication processes, both analog and digital, to create unique designs solutions that challenge the way we make things today and in the future. He’s still finding the direction his practice will take but continues experimenting with projects that challenge him.

Josh is the recipient of the Outstanding Career and Technical Educator Award presented by the United Federation of Teachers and the Stefan Karfakis Memorial Scholarship from the Center for Metal Arts.
